The Program
::
The
Cal Poly at Sea program is a collaboration between Cal
Poly and the California Maritime Academy (CMA). CMA
students are training to enter the merchant marine world,
so they basically run the ship with the support of CMA
faculty and staff. CMA invites other CSU campuses to
join their training cruise to fill the ship and also
add to their program. Cal Poly participates because
we think this is a great way for students to see the
world by sea while taking Cal Poly courses.
 |
The requirements for participation are a CAL POLY 2.5 GPA, an adventurous nature, flexible attitude, and willingness to fit into the CMA structure. To integrate with CMA, our students wear uniforms (blue polo or T-shirt and jeans or khakis) on board and participate in the general hotel services on the ship. All students on board help with the daily Clean Sweep Down, which is a half hour cleaning a section of the ship, and one or two CC Duty days, which is working in the galley (kitchen) for a day between classes. |
